Escape Plan (2013)

Plot Summary

Ray Breslin (Stallone) is a man who has devoted his life to making prisons inescapable by going into a prison as an inmate and trying to see if he can break out. And he has done a good job so far. A woman who says she works for the CIA approaches Ray and says that a new maximum security prison where the worst criminals are to be incarcerated, is about to be launched. So she wants him to go and make sure no one can get out. He agrees. So they make the necessary preps by telling Ray who the warden is and they give him a code that the warden will know that he's not a convict, and they plant him with a tracer. But when he's picked up, the ones who pick him up remove the tracer. When he arrives at the prison, he discovers that the warden is different from the one he was told and when he tells him the code, he claims that he doesn't know what he's talking about. He realizes that someone doesn't want him to get out. He then tries to find a way out but he needs help. Another prisoner, Rottmayer (Schwarzenegger) becomes friendly with him. And they decide to work together to get out.

Modern Movie Monday: Man of Steel (2013)

Plot Summary

As the planet of Krypton crumbles, General Zod (Michael Shannon) stages a coup as concerned leader Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and his wife send their infant son Kal-El (Henry Cavill) to a distant world called Earth. While the young child travels through space with an object containing the DNA of his home planet, General Zod and his cohorts are sentenced to an eternity in a black-hole prison. Named Clark and raised by kindly farmers Jonathan (Kevin Costner) and Martha Kent (Diane Lane), young Kal-El lives in fear of what might happen should his neighbors learn about his extraterrestrial origins, eventually exploring the world in search of himself. In time, Clark's travels take him to a frozen tundra, where the American government has discovered an 18,000-year-old anomaly buried deep in the ice. Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane (Amy Adams) has just come to investigate when, after venturing out with her camera, she has a profound encounter with Clark. Convinced that his presence on Earth is proof of life on other planets, Lois finds her attempt to publish the story thwarted by her boss Perry White (Laurence Fishburne), who rejects it outright. Later, the airwaves are hijacked by General Zod, who threatens to obliterate the human race if they fail to hand over Kal-El within 24 hours. Forced to embrace his otherworldly origins for the first time in his life, Clark Kent dons the special suit from Krypton and prepares to take a stand against an enemy far more powerful than any he's ever known.

Modern Movie Week: Emperor (2012)

So before I get into the review this is just a note about the direction this blog will be heading into for the foreseeable future. This week will be all modern movie reviews, for the purposes of this blog "modern" means any movie released from 1995 to present day. I will be doing a "Modern Monday" review every Monday from here on out.

With that being said let's do this:

Emperor (2012)

Plot Summary

A story of love and understanding set amidst the tensions and uncertainties of the days immediately following the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II. On the staff of General Douglas MacArthur (Tommy Lee Jones), the de facto ruler of Japan as Supreme Commander of the occupying forces, a leading Japanese expert, General Bonner Fellers (Mathew Fox) is charged with reaching a decision of historical importance: should Emperor Hirohito be tried and hanged as a war criminal? Interwoven is the story of Fellers' love affair with Aya, a Japanese exchange student he had met years previously in the U.S. Memories of Aya and his quest to find her in the ravaged post-war landscape help Fellers to discover both his wisdom and his humanity and enable him to come to the momentous decision that changed the course of history and the future of two nations.
